Coffee is one of those things that I enjoy on a daily basis. I usually try to stick to just one cup a day and drink it in the morning so that it doesn't disrupt my sleep cycle. On weekends, i'll indulge in an almond milk latte or cold brew in the summer time (see this post!) I've been reading a lot lately about people adding ghee and coconut oil to their coffee, so I decided to give it a try!
Ghee (clarified butter) is an important healing food in the ayurvedic tradition and has been gaining popularity within the wellness community because of it's rich nutritional properties. The butter clarification process removes moisture, milk solids and impurities, leaving a rich, nutrient-dense fat. Ghee is composed fatty acids, both unsaturated and saturated, as well as vitamins A, D, E and K, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). CLA is a compound known to increase metabolic rate, enhance muscle growth and decrease abdominal fat!
Coconut oil is next on the list. It supercharges metabolic activity, boosting energy levels, and erasing brain fog. Coconut oil has MCT (medium chain triglycerides), which are utilized as energy by the body very quickly and it is rich in lauric acid , which is converted to monolaurin in the body which has antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal and antiprotozoal properties thereby being an automatic immune booster.
I expected the comibination to taste a little funky...butter in my coffee??? But it's divinely delicious. Here's my recipe, try to be as organic as possible for the best nutrient profile!

1 tsp coconut oil
1 tbsp sun potion tocos
1/2 tsp sun potion reishi

Blend the ingredients in the coffee with a hand blender or nutribullet until frothy, and enjoy!!!
