Every year as the mercury level climbs, legions of people abandon their thermally insulated mugs and scramble for cold coffee. I am one of them, and I love a really good cold brew. So what makes an iced coffee a cold brew you ask? It's all in the method. It's an overnight process of steeping coffee in water at room temperature, which yields a low-acid concentrate that is gentle on the stomach. My boyfriend, Mike, has developed somewhat of a sensitive stomach, and cold brew is no problem for him!
One of my favorite places to get a good cold brew is at The Rook in NJ. The NJ based shop opened it's doors in January 2010 by two childhood friends who ditched their corporate jobs to follow their passion for specialty coffee. My Rook coffee bar experience has always been extremely pleasant, they pride themselves on over the top customer service, and I always get exceptional product. They have an upcoming coffee subscription service by mail that you can bet I will definitely be subscribing to!
